The Battle of Saratoga

The turning point in the war was battle of Saratoga because more than 5,000 British troops surrendered. This victory made some European countries want to ally with the Patriots because they were bitter enemies of the British too, or some other reason. France supplied arms, loaned money, and sent troops and helped trap British in Yorktown. France's navy cut off British ships. Spain captured a British fort in Florida. Dutch banks also loaned money for the cause. This was a major booster for the American.

The British army had many different advantages such as...
1. Large and well trained Army and Navy
2. Soldiers were paid full time
3. Experienced fighters
4. Had $ from Parliament to buy supplies.

They also had disadvantages:
1. Hard to get supplies, orders, and soldiers to war (3 months away!)
2. Supply ships got attacked by privateers and French warships
3. Didn't know the land as well
4. You'll be surprised by this one. The Patriots in town are laughing hysterically at this last reason that the British have for self-pity: NO LOCAL LOVE or SUPPORT!!!!
War Strategies

The British wanted to face their enemies right in front of them. They also wanted to capture key cities and Boston first, so they could have more control on the big area. They didn't like the hide and fight strategy, and they thought that anyone who didn't come up to them and fight was a scaredy-pants. Hah to them. Oops, I can't give my own opinion in a newspaper. I hate my job. Oops again!
War strategies

The Continental Army had strategies that were unused, and very different. While Britain was more offensive, the Patriots' tactic was defense. They avoided facing Britain in the open. They chose surprise attacks on the Redcoats in the countryside rather than attacks they knew were coming. They also started a new trend: sharpshooting. Taking out their targets one by one, the Patriots won their way to victory.

1. motivation to win- defending rights, better future, defending homes
2. After Saratoga (above), they gained allies
3. Knowledge of the land

DISADVANTAGES
1. little money to pay soldiers or buy supplies
2. Most knew little about being soldiers
3. Small army and navy
